File GST Return : Complete Guide to GST Returns, Forms & Due Dates

1. What is a GST Return?

A return is a document containing details of income which a taxpayer is required to file with the tax administrative authorities. This is used by tax authorities to calculate tax liability.

To file GST return , GST compliant sales and purchase invoices are required. GST compliant invoices must be generated as per GST rules, including proper tax breakup, GSTIN details, and HSN/SAC reporting (where applicable).

Any business registered under GST must file GST returns, even if there are no transactions during the period (Nil return).
